Now to the fun part…the memories. There are literally thousands of people we need to thank for the past 14 years…but we will try as best we can. First and foremost thank you to our family…you know who you are and your generosity and patience helped us build and maintain this party from the beginning. We also want to thank…the Harpsters, the Benes family (Generous Tom!), the Morrows, the Spomers, Rick Willmott, the Congers, the Coates family, Speedway Properties, the Sanfords, the Baber family, Ross, Vberg, Stuart, Paula, Brandie, Alex, Jordan, Travis, Caleb, Kristina, Angie, George, Yelkin, Laura, Emma, Paul, Ryan, Sara…all the local bands, Cactus Hill, Emmett Bower Band, Dylan Bloom, and The Back Forty just to name a few…we could literally go on for days…but these special people and hundreds of other co-workers were the shoulders we all stood on. Thank you.
Back in 2011…the old Sidetrack Bar burned down and we reached out to Joyce Durand of the World Famous Sidetrack Band to see if they had a place to play for the spring game that year. Something clicked and later that year Joyce reached out and said the old Boomer’s Printing building was for lease and they would be interested in playing there if we were able to make it work. Since then not only did Joyce, Paul, and the gang play for every home football game to thousands of Husker football fans…but our little stage has hosted the likes of Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell, the Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Myers, Morgan Wallen…and fun fact…we even had Chris Stapleton booked but he had to cancel last minute. So in a very direct way…we owe the Single Barrel to our friend Joyce…we miss her dearly…and tbh…it was never the same since she passed. But we know she would want to probably say something like this…and please feel free to sing along in your head…
“We don’t know the words…we don’t know the wordsssssss…we don’t know the f——-g words…we don’t know the words!”…but in this case we do know the words…and they are Thank You…Thank you Lincoln for a great 14 years! And you never know…you may hear from us again.
P.S. We have no idea what’s going into the hotel after us…but it won’t be locally owned and operated…if we are hankering for a good steak we will support Misty’s, Lazlo’s, the Venue or visit George over at Aragon Tavern…something local…the hotel used to have a fun vibe and uniqueness to it…but now…meh…just another Hilton.
